Opava Majales 2026 – Visual Style for the Jubilee 30th Edition of the Student Festival
Opava Majales 2026 celebrated its jubilee 30th edition, which is why the main motif of the visual identity was a bold, stylized number 30. It became the dominant element of the entire communication — not only as a reference to the anniversary, but also as a symbol of thirty years of energy, music, student life and shared experiences.
I visually developed the number 30 using layered lines subtly reminiscent of tree rings. This motif refers to the passage of time, growth, tradition and the gradual layering of the festival’s history. Just as tree rings tell the story of a tree, each edition of Majáles forms a layered story of student culture in Opava.
The overall visual concept works with expressive colors, a spring atmosphere and rich decorative detail. The combination of pink, purple, turquoise and light tones creates a lively, optimistic and energetic expression that matches the character of an open-air festival. Spring motifs such as leaves, flowers, birds, butterflies and musical symbols support a feeling of lightness, vibrancy, movement and joy.
The visual is built around a strong central motif, spatial layering and a plastic 3D effect. As a result, the graphic design feels festive and playful while also working well across both large and small formats — from posters and social media to T-shirt prints.
Visual Concept
The core idea was to create a festival identity that would not only inform, but also feel like a celebration in itself. The jubilee edition called for a distinctive visual symbol that would immediately communicate the uniqueness of the event. That is why I designed the number 30 as the main graphic object around which the entire visual world of the festival could develop.
The stylized tree-ring structure inside the number connects several layers of meaning:
- 30 years of festival history
- growth and continuity of student tradition
- layers of memories, editions and musical experiences
- an organic connection with spring and the open-air atmosphere
The spring decorative motifs then add lightness, playfulness and positive energy to the main symbol. The result is a visual style that combines the festive character of the anniversary with a youthful, colorful and festival-oriented aesthetic.
Visual Language
The visual style combines expressive typography, spatial effects, gradients and organic decorative elements. The color palette is based on the contrast of pink, purple and turquoise, which together create a fresh spring atmosphere while maintaining a strong visual impact.
Layering also plays an important role. Individual elements overlap, move forward in space and create the impression of a festival scene full of motion. This principle helps the visual feel lively and dynamic without losing the readability of the key information.
The Opavský Majáles logo is integrated directly into the composition of the number 30, creating a compact main motif that can be used across all outputs. Thanks to this, the visual identity has a clearly recognizable center and works well as a poster, digital banner and standalone graphic element for merchandising.
Applied Outputs
As part of the project, I prepared the complete visual communication of the festival for both print and digital media. The visual style was applied to:
- the main festival poster,
- advertising banners,
- web graphics,
- social media posts and stories,
- stage program graphics,
- LED banners displayed on stage,
- the festival T-shirt print,
- limited-edition cider labels,
- supporting graphic elements and format adaptations.
The goal was to maintain a unified visual character across all media while adapting each format to its specific function. The main poster works with information hierarchy and the full program, while the social media graphics place greater emphasis on atmosphere, invitation, performers or specific festival moments.
Result
The result is a bold, colorful and festive visual identity that communicates the jubilee character of the 30th edition of Opavský Majáles while preserving the youthful energy of a student festival. The main number 30 motif works as a memorable symbol of the edition, while the spring motifs, musical elements and dynamic color palette create a vivid visual world that can be used throughout the entire campaign.
The visual connects information, emotion and festival atmosphere — from the first encounter on the poster to digital communication, stage LED screens and merchandise.
